Martha Berry Museum
At a very young age, Martha Berry developed an interest in the less fortunate children that lived in the area surrounding Oak Hill, her family's home. Later as a young adult, Martha had a chance meeting with a group of these children at a log cabin that she played in as a child. She began to tell them Bible stories and was impressed with their hunger for knowledge. Soon the cabin was too small and the classes were moved to an nearby abandoned church. Martha continued to pursue her vision with plans for a boarding school with a philosophy educating the head, heart and hands. In January, 1902 The Boys Industrial School opened. Seven years later a girls school was added, then a junior college. Today Martha's dream continues to grow at Berry College.
